Like any form of exercise swimming makes you feel good.
It’s boosts and stimulates those feel good chemicals like serotonin to make you feel happy and joyful.
Swimming can be an intense workout for a time for fun, whichever you desire. Either way, you’ll enjoy the benefits this activity has to offer.
Here are just some of the benefits:
It’s low impact – swimming allows for greater ease of moment and there’s less strain of muscles and joints.
Swimming strengthens muscles, it’s great for resistance training. Water can be up to 44 times greater than that of air, which means you have to work harder to move through it.
It’s heart healthy and improves cardio, you can get a fantastic cardio workout without sweating!
And again like other forms of exercise it also helps prevent type 2 diabetes.
And of course helps you lose weight by burning calories.

So, this week’s episode is going to be a little different. I had some very sad news this past week. On this show I’m sharing my thoughts and feeling on life, those we love, celebrating and gratitude.
Only 17 days until Christmas!!! Seriously I can’t believe Christmas is almost here and the year is almost over. I feel the older I get the quicker times passes. And happy Hanukkah to those of you who celebrate Hanukkah. It’s such a wonderful festive season, I just love it. But I think we forget to keep the holiday cheer. We get so caught up in presents and shopping and visiting family and friends that we let the joy pass us by. If you are going to do anything this holiday season, I ask that you slow down and remember all that you have. Life as we know it truly is wonderful. If you’ve got clothes on your back, a roof over your head, food and water on the table, then really, life is fecking amazing!

So, what are your beliefs about yourself? Do you find yourself judging you constantly, do the emotions of shame, fear and disappointment come into your thoughts often. Well, my guest Kristin Swarcheck is here today to show us how we can lean into those emotions and see ourselves as worthy.
Some of you feel like you can’t live without it, your addicted, you must have your coffee when you wake up in the morning.
So, I’m going to share some pros and cons of coffee.
First off just like anything you consume, to get the greatest benefits you must make sure it’s the best quality you can get and afford. Think of your coffee as a fine wine, or a really good quality organic raw chocolate. Quality is what reigns here. And you should also understand that there is great differences between different types of coffee such as instant coffee, an espresso or filter coffee. They each have pros/cons.
Here are just a few cons:
it can affect your sleep and sleep patterns
can raise blood pressure
acts as a diuretic causing dehydration and a loss of vitamins B & C as well as calcium, zinc and iron
the acids can aggravate heartburn, and is associated with digestive discomfort & indigestion
can stain your teeth
it can affect certain medications being absorbed
it’s addictive
it can imbalance your electrolytes
it can affect your adrenals causing fatigue, low energy, sugar cravings and heightened stress.
Ok, so that’s not depressing at all!!
Here’s the good news, the pros. But understand this is for a good quality organic coffee that is consumed black. Avoid the sugar, milks, creams, flavourings.
coffee may cut stroke risk by as much as 25%. Data shown at the European Meeting on Hypertension 2012 found that 1 to 3 cups a day may protect against ischemic stroke in the general population.
cancer – moderate to heavy coffee consumption (4-6 cups per day) may help reduce the risk of various cancers. The benefits are partly due to coffee’s antioxidant and anti-mutagenic properties.
Weight loss and diabetes – studies have linked coffee consumption with improved blood sugar metabolism, reduced risk of type 2 diabetes and promotion of weight loss in overweight people, this of course is without all the sugar.
Liver disease – coffee has been reported to slow disease progression in alcoholic cirrhosis, hepatitis C and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The liver helps to break down coffee, but coffee might also protect the liver (in some cases).
With all of that of course I’m going to give you a couple of recommendations. Got to give you some action steps, right! LOL
For every cup of coffee you drink you are going to match it with water. It’s so important to stay hydrated. The body is a flowing river, remember.
If you drink more than 2 cups of coffee a day, swap only one of those cups for a tea, try a green tea, rooibos, herbal, chai. Switch it up, add a little more excitement to your day!
Breathing is something we do without even thinking. And that is sometimes the problem. We don’t think about it often. Especially in times of stress. Breathing and different types of breathing affects our state of being. Our breathing patterns can affect our mental state.
By being conscious and breathing deeply, from the belly, you will feel a great sense of energy and calmness. The fuller and deeper you breathe, the more energy you will have.
It can relax and calm the mind – deep breathing allows for more awareness because it forces you to slow down and listen to your body.
Deep breathing is a stress reducer by activating our parasympathetic nervous system which gives the body a chance to regenerate, recuperate and heal.
More oxygen is brought into the bloodstream and to various cells in the body. Oxygen is life.
So, how do we do this?
Let’s add it into our morning routine. When you wake up, sit on the edge of your bed and take, 10 deep breaths, this reduces stress and makes you feel happier first thing. Then say thank you, you woke up this morning!
All of that takes less than 5 minutes but can have huge impact for the rest of your day.
